Audio version:
Boat - Ocean night.
That's a routine journey, disciples got used to sailing on water masses, expecting a comfortable move, with saviour Jesus in the boat.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship so that it was now full.
And he (Jesus) was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? - Mark 4:38
Read this again!
Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
How is it that ye have no faith?
And he (Jesus) arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. -Mark 4:39
The channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. - Psalm 18:15
The faith which limits the power of God will leave us in fear. A real faith fore-sees the final calmness even before the storm starts.
When you pass through the waters,I will be with you;and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.-Isiah 43:3
Final Words:
Jesus' promise to protect us is not simply a statement, but a never-ending reality that can overwrite the laws of nature, just to fulfill his promise.
In fear, we may question him. But he turns our questions to exclamations. And he repeats this until we stop questioning, doubting, and limiting him.
Storms may hit you. God may appear sleeping and silent, but Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is our keeper: the Lord is our shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve us from all evil: he shall preserve our soul.
Amen!
